Avid Offline for Symphony

PREPARING YOUR AVID OFFLINE FOR SYMPHONY ONLINE

WHAT TO BRING

  1. The Editor will need a tape reference output to 3/4" or BSP of the final cut.
  2. The bin containing the final sequence should be output to a 100 meg Zip disk, floppy, CD or Jazz Disk - Mac or PC format. The final sequence needs to be labeled clearly as the online version.
  3. Create a printout for out of the ordinary events such as mixdowns or nested effects.

FILE NAME COMPATIBILITY

To avoid problems with incompatible file names, do not use the following characters in the Project, Bin, Title, or other file names.

1. \ / : * ? " < > |

Windows NT will substitute other characters, making the files unrecognizable as Avid files. Do not use spaces or periods at the beginning or end of file names, Windows NT will not be able to access these files even if they can be seen on the listing.

AUDIO COMPATIBILITY

  1. Before you start your offline process, set the audio format for AIFF.
  2. In the Project window under general settings list choose AIFF from the Audio File Format pop-up menu. This will insure audio compatibility for the online process if you wish to maintain audio that is imported for finishing purposes.
  3. If your system does not support AIFF and your project contains Sound Designer II (SDII) audio, export the audio media as a SDll file to zip or jazz disk.

TITLES AND GRAPHICS COMPATIBILITY

  1. You must use True Type or PostScript fonts and bring the font on disk to upload to the Avid Symphony. Standard Mac fonts are not compatible with Symphony. Fonts can be substituted in the online process but scaling errors can occur.
  2. If your project includes crawling titles, the titles will not transfer, and Symphony will insert a placeholder. We will provide whatever services are needed to finish this process outside of Symphony.

AVX PLUG-IN EFFECTS

If your project includes AVX Plug-In effects, make sure the same plug-ins are available for your session. There are several outboard effects tools available for the Mac such as After-Effects, Boris FX and Ultimatte, which may not be compatible with the online software currently available. You may consider exporting finished comps as an OMF file, or as a Quick Time Movie file for import to Symphony.

GRAPHICS FILES

  1. The Symphony will conform all recognizable graphics.
  2. If he offline includes mattes or artwork that was originated outside of Symphony, it needs to be stored at the highest resolution otherwise the image quality will be the same as the offline.
  3. All artwork and mattes must be included on the transfer zip, CD, Floppy, or Jazz Disk to be accessed in online.
  4. File Size: 720 x 486 is preferred. 648 x 486 or 640 x 480 is also acceptable. Resolution: 72 dpi.
